Falcon 4 Versions

Different Falcon 4.0 versions or flavors if you will. These are not really Addons because each of them provides the actual falcon4.exe file, they are source code edits based on the 1998 leaked source code.

Falcon Allied Force

Falcon 4 Allied Force (AF)

This one uses old PCX file texture.zip for tiles.

OpenFalcon

OpenFalcon (OF)

Uses DDS tiles and aircraft/vehicle skins. Fartiles system is completely different from original falcon, it creates now tons of small dds files.

Uses the SuperPAK series kind of Art directory structure including art1024/ etc.

FreeFalcon / RedViper

RedViper (RV)

Uses DDS tiles and aircraft/vehicle skins. Fartiles system is completely different from original falcon, it creates now tons of small dds files.

Art directory structure is completely new with the user interface.

Uses a totally differnt graphics engine and proprietary model file name (DXM).

Theater switching of files includes: <Theater> folder files per PMC file folder conventions which include unique files for each theater's Tacref, simdata, art, ckptart, sounds, music, movies, terrdata, etc.

FreeFalcon 5.x

When FF5.x was released, it featured database and campaign files which had file formats changed (no, they were not “encrypted”) because FF dev team did not want users to mess up their installs and therefore report false bugs caused by user mods.

At March 2010 FF dev team announced that future version should include normal database/campaign files.
