How to add Falcon 4 Campaign aircraft squadrons using Tacedit.
Load up tacedit, open up a campaign file (save0.cam, save1.cam or save2.cam).
Click on the Map View to bring up the map of your theater.
RMB click somewhere on the map at empty space (not objective) and choose View Objectives → None. Do the same for View Units → None. Then choose View Objectives → Airfields.
Press on the N icon on the top part of tacedit or use RMB → Show Names, to bring up the names of the airfields. You can change the font and size from View → Name Font… feature, tacedit defaults to quite big/ugly font and I find the map much easier to read when I change the font to my liking. Font selection is only effective the current session, when you restart tacedit it reverts to default font.
To add an squadron, choose RMB → Add Unit, or use menu Insert → Add Unit. On the New Unit Type window you choose the following
New: Squadron
Type: Fighter
SubType: Fighter F-16C-40
Then click OK.
If your drop down menus show empty, you need to configure the objects / database dir, see this for help.
Now in the Select Airbase window choose the name of the airbase where you want the squadron be placed at. Click OK. In the Squadron window → Squadron page tab you should choose Specialty (None, Air/air or Air/ground) but not sure how much it really matters. On Squadron window → Unit Properties tab you need to set Name to some squadron number. You can make up the number or use historically accurate or present in the in game database, up to you. Also the default 0 works, but looks silly in game. Click OK.
Click on the Campaign to bring up the airbases tab, then use Units → Rebuild Squadrons.
Save your campaign.
Done!
Now your added squadron will be in the saved campaign.
This was the manual method of adding squadrons, there is new and improved method to use TCL scripts which everyone should use, its faster, its easier and its more safer (your hard campaign editing work is never lost as it comes from the script).
